I'm definitely interested, I'm pretty adjust to the whole lock picking environment, not to be a stereo type or anything but I've been in some pretty rough neighbourhoods etc where people just do this for the hell of it, growing up I would always break into shit and steal stuff lmao, this is one of the best methods of hacking IMO.. hmu with a dm if you're interested in teaching me some tricks.

whenever i find a lock around on the floor, i have a go at it with good old bobby pins! Bend one into an F, insert a prong into the top and bottom of the hole. This helps the drum not get spread and jamming and is a bit springy so pressure is even. Then another pin in a tick shape to push the pins inserted between the prongs on the first pin. and pop goes the lock. Biggrin i dont do it very often but its good to know i can do it in i need to in a snap

I remember when I first learned how at Defcon. Someone was nice enough to lend me their picks to practice on the locks. I can get into most cheap or commercially available locks. Gotten into a couple of luggage bags when we lost the keys. A great skill to have, although I never expanded on it. Still have a trusty set.

Lucky you. I've always wanted to attend a Defcon convention, but I'm on the other side of the globe.

@"Valkyrie", what's your stance on bump keys? I'm looking to purchase a set, and wondering whether they're worthy of the money spent. Or perhaps other members may shed some light on this.

I've also considered them. They have a lower success rate than picks, but are easier to use.

I've read some pretty good reviews on bump keys, but like you've mentioned, they can't compete with traditional lock picking.

I'll purchase a set anyway and even If they don't work to the degree I expect, It'll be fun to experiment and Identify the locks they succeed.

As @"Ender" mentioned, they have a lower success rate than SPP (Single Pin Picking) or raking, though the learning curve is very easy; once you learn how to do it properly there isn't much to expand on. If you look at it from an ops point of view, bump keys also have a much bigger sound signature (hence the "bump" in their name) and require that you carry one for every type of keyway (i.e. a bump key that works on locks with Medeco keyways won't fit into any other manufacturer's locks).
It's often the outcasts, the iconoclasts ... those who have the least to lose because they
don't have much in the first place, who feel the new currents and ride them the farthest.

What you've mentioned here, Is exactly what I've read on many articles on the net.

I found a supplier In my locality, who claims they sell bump keys for almost all lock manufacturers commonly used In my country. Whether this Is In fact the case, remains to be seen. I'll place the order and experiment. It'll be an enjoyable experience.
