Let's talk about Gun Control #1
I do understand that this is quite a controversial issue, so if you do have differing views/opinions, I'd love to have a respective civic discussion.

I personally do not think taking away guns will solve this issue. Even if the government does ban assault weapons, people will find ways around this. e.g. you can create your own unregistered gun by 3d printing the lower reciever- the only component which cannot be purchased online - and purchase ammunition and the other components off the internet. Even without 3d printers, the black market and darknet will always be a hotspot for illegal transactions for weapons: especially with cryptocurrencies becoming more prevalent in the media. I believe that the focus of this hot topic is mental health. I can't say that the reason for these mass shootings in America is due to the high rate of fathers being in prison and divorce rates, because other countries have those problems while not having mass shootings

However, I do understand the left's arguments in gun control. Although automatic weapons being banned may not guarantee the extinction of - let's say- school shootings, it will be much harder to get these weapons thus maybe preventing these attacks.

What do you personally think of gun control?

That's why we have the black market also known as the deep web. Me personally, I prefer to have the gun law since, if someone was to step onto my land, I should have the rights to shoot if they're coming to kill me.
What I do not condone is having guns in public although, it can be in some use if getting stalked or, another person is hold one.

Where I live, You can't carry a gun without a permit or license to hold one. If so, you would be fucked with a massive fine.

"Control" Is the operative word, both relative to the government (In this case) and the owner.

Someone with malicious Intent, will exhaust all avenues and "will" obtain a gun, no matter what It takes. If the Intent Is there, control Is Immaterial.

It amazes me that mass shootings are linked with gun control. I mean, I would argue that the lack of acknowledgment and the broken system in conjunction with our society not wanting to talk about the real cause of mass shootings... mental illness. Guns are a resource. And how you go about using them is solely based on the individual. Not the gun. Gun control isn’t the issue.

As others stated, the issue lies within mental illness, not an inanimate firearm. Mental illness needs to be addressed properly, as it would eliminate the possibility of the misuse. There's been cases where the government could have prevented shootings.

There's more than 1 firearm per citizen in the US currently, and the average citizen is peaceful. It would be impossible to extract them all from the population. Some people want to sacrifice their freedom for the illusion of security. Those people deserve neither.

Gun laws didn't prevent Anders Breivik from killing 77 people. It's naive to assume they'd stop anyone else. Further control would only leave the average citizen defenseless in the event they needed a firearm.

Automatics are tightly regulated. The only way to obtain one, is if it was manufactured prior to 1986 (via Form 4 or FFL). Most of the owners are collectors and enthusiasts, and there haven't been any cases of murder with them. The prime difference between automatics and semi-automatics is price and availability (most automatics are expensive and they are more than 30 years old).

Guns shouldn't really be controlled much. The individual should be. Mental health isn't a clear answer. Intensive screening needs to take place. I do agree that bump sticks are unnecessary. But guns shouldn't be made illegal. Just be regulated more, as it really is easy to obtain a gun. Also making them illegal would probably stop a lot of crime as it would come with a hefty fine and parents wouldn't have them to which others would have access. I don't agree with that as it is compromising our freedoms for the mentally ill population. Which I could live with if it meant being safe.

Why wouldn’t mental abilities not be a step in the right direction? Or at most, considered in the issuing of guns?

On top of what Oni is stating, It brings me back memories of YouTube HQ, Las Vegas shootout & etc. The shooter comes to a point of committing suicide because, not only he/she murdered a bunch of civilians but, the suffer they have to go through remembering who they are and, what actions led to the death-ling shooting. Vis SC, it's quick and simple and, don't have to suffer a long painful death in prison.

I feel I can go on and on but...

What I personally think about gun control, is that whining and complaining about it will not do anything. We personally have no control over these issues. I am not an American (like you are), so I don't really care, anyway. Smile
