Learning to Play Guitar! #1
So I bought an Ibanez GRX20ZBKN and a Peavy Solo 12. A friend of mine plays metal, and has taught me a few basics. I've been practicing for the last day or so, and I suck. The worst part is feeling like you are doing something wrong, and not knowing what it is.

Congratulation for you, just listen to other musics, videos and practice so you will learn it.

Nice man. I've been dying to learn, but I'm kinda broke at this point so its quite hard to get started. But good luck!

I don't know how to play but the learning curve for any instrument really blows.

After that, you'll be glad you went through it though.

That's cool!
I would like to learn myself, but I don't have time.
I wish you the best of luck!

I've been playing for way too long to be at the low-ish level I am (hooray, inconsistent practice!), but I can offer some tips.
  1. Know your tunings and remember to switch when necessary, especially if you're interested in metal. Pretty much everything modern metal is in drop D, and sometimes I don't notice why the song I'm playing sounds like shit until I'm half way into it.
  2. Try to learn things way above your skill level. I know it sounds stupid, and it's a little disheartening at times, but once you get more advanced techniques down, everything easier becomes a cinch.
  3. Pedals (distortion especially) are expensive, but a metal guitarist's best friend, and really fun to play with if you get a nice array going. Maybe even split the patch cord, run a few in series, put a looper in there somewhere, and use a distortion box as a pre-amp or something (I really want to do this, but I don't have the money for it).

The guitar itself looks awesome, and your idea for a decal sounds pretty cool. Good luck, and don't be an idiot and drop it for a year like I did Tongue Keep us updated!

It's often the outcasts, the iconoclasts ... those who have the least to lose because they
don't have much in the first place, who feel the new currents and ride them the farthest.

A musical Instrument Is one thing I could never adapt to. I Guess It wasn't/Isn't my forte.

Keep practicing and before you know It, It'll be second nature. You should record yourself now and do the same a year later. You can then look back on the Improvement.

Keep trying and don't give up if you really want to learn .

Continuing to practice how to hold the pick and strum. I'm slowing getting better. Next on my list is to try some basic chords.
