Desktop for gaming, laptop for anything else. Anyone who says that there are affordable gaming laptops is lying.

I prefer a desktop. A laptop can be useful in some cases, but I like to use a desktop as they usually have more power

Both have thier uses. A laptop is portable and easily used on free wifi, but laptops tend to overheat and wear out more quickly. Nevermind the fact that they are a nightmare to fix hardware wise, unless you happen to be skilled at micro circuit repair. On the otherhand, Desktops are much easier to mod, have a longer life, and are easily custom built. They are also quite easy to repair because they are all just component level parts. Easy out, easy in.
I prefer to have both.

It really depends. If they were of exactly the same standard, then obviously a laptop since it's portable, although if it's say... an equal price, a desktop, as you get more bang for your buck.
