Reminds me of EVE Online. I really hope this technology exists some day.

We won't be alive to see it.

You never know. Technology is evolving at a rapid rate.

Even if we could travel at the speed of light it would take 500 years to reach that. Just think about that guys.

No, that's just... no. You wouldn't live that long. If you reproduce on the ship on the way, then one of your great great grand children may see it, but no one that's alive on earth now will ever stand on that planet.

Well, believe it or not, there have been articles on it and say that we are close to it so we may see it in our time.

Ermm, no. Use the space ship as a home, reproduce, your great great grand children will arrive.

Kind of misses the point of us going to another planet not our great great grandchildren...

The Speed of Light:
670,616,629 miles per hour
Fastest Spacecraft (Solar Probe Plus, NASA, 2018):
450,000 miles per hour

Solar Probe Plus can travel at 0.067% the speed of light.

A light-year is about 6,000,000,000,000 miles.
6,000,000,000,000 miles multiplied by 500 equals 3,000,000,000,000,000 miles (Kepler's distance from Earth).

It would take millions and millions of years to travel that distance.
There will never be any human feet on the surface of that planet. The distance is insane. It's impossible.
