Just a man (or woman) 08-04-2014, 04:11 PM

Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves and think that we're all high, mighty, and powerful on the Internet. It's just human nature. We get arrogant, stubborn, determined. It's an emotion, we have it. Who cares, right? That wont ever catch up to us!
Well, if you're not really trying to be anonymous online then this quick read probably wont mean anything to you. This is all more so geared towards the hackers, doxers, and whoever else who sometimes will bite off more than they can chew.
Hackers - You know that vulnerability you just found in that government website? Just remember, if your curiosity gets the best of you, you could very well end up somewhere bad. Don't believe me? Well, a guy in a group I'm in just got jailed for 7 years for hacking the University of Melbourne. Even though this is something he did three years ago, it still caught up to him.
Doxers - You know that PayPal account you just found? Well, just think... If you log in to that and a case is opened and they want to track you down, you could very well be caught.
Security freak trying to stay anonymous - You know that crazy thing you just did? You know that picture of yourself you just posted on a forum to get responses for a few minutes? You know that one person you don't even know who you just shared a bit of personal information with? None of the people looking at, or reading, this probably care. You're just a man. You're just a woman. You're only human.
What I'm trying to say is that our emotions and desire to feel powerful can sometimes get in our way and make us do stupid things. We often forget that we're people. So, if you ever think you're taking on more than you can probably handle in the time-being or future just stop and think - I'm only a man.
EDIT:
I just thought that I should probably add this in. This is actually a quote of mine from further down on this page in this thread.

Spoiler:
Their once was a man named Marcus Aurelius. He was an Roman Emperor from 161 to 180. He ruled with Lucius Verus as co-emperor from 161 until Verus' death in 169. He was the last of the Five Good Emperors, and is also considered one of the most important Stoic philosophers.
Aurelius would always find himself walking through the streets with citizens bowing down to him, offering him complimenting words of praise, and even more at times. Despite this, he never wanted have this praise make him lose site of his goals. So, what did he do? He hired a servant to follow him through the streets and whisper "You're just a man. You're just a man." every time someone bowed, got on their knee, or praised him in some way or another.
Aside from that, something that you may or may not find interesting is a famous quote of his "Wrestle to be the man philosophy wished to make you." In my personal opinion, this quote belongs alongside Abraham Lincoln's claim that "the best way to test a man's character is to give him power."
