This is a crazy old post which is why I felt it interesting to note, 7 years later things haven't improved much.  Crazy right...
The hacks above have mostly been fixed as far as I'm aware but varies from airline to airline..
Truly terrifying part is the chaos one can potential cause with consumer radio tx/rx tools.  Depending on country these aren't flagged at security and in all the flights I have taken have only once been questioned about it.  The real kicker is if you dont get one onboard as carry on, no sweat, you can connect to the ones you have in checked baggage.  Honestly I'm surprised nothing terrible hasn't already happened..

It's definitely concerning to see how little progress has been made in some areas over the years.
