What do you feel have been the biggest innovations over the 50-year history of gaming?

I would have to agree with most people and say consoles are the biggest thing.

Consoles yes, and for me (since I'm a graphics whore) UI/GUI and GFX quality.

I would have to say that online play was a huge innovation, along with motion sense like Kinect.
Online play though, that is just phenomenal.

International Online Play. There was online play back in 2002, but it was only LAN servers. And the Xbox changed that, but it wasn't really a International thing, it was more Continent based. Then the PS3 and Xbox 360 came out and changed EVERYTHING. Now you could play with people from Britain, China, Australia, you name it.

Online is a big thing...I mean, playing a game with anyone you want....
I also think that PC gaming added a lot to the gaming world.

PC gaming for me, the amount of technology put into one machine amazes me.
