I was given an Iphone 4! No strings, no iclould, no nothing. What should I do with it?

If you don't want to use it as a phone, jailbreak it, write yourself a simple vpn client + web + file server, and carry around your home network in your pocket. All you gotta do is turn on the bluetooth tethering and bam, fully connected.

You should put the image in spoilers and then use the iPhone for music.

It's the way Apple chooses to be so closed with their firmware. You can't access anything that is outside the sandbox unless you jailbreak it. His iPhone 4 has (like all iPhone 4's and previous models) old bootrom that can be exploited via limera1n, which makes it jailbreakable.
I never have and never will own an iPhone, so I wouldn't really know.
However, it's just not a realistic solution to use as just a storage device.
