The only two OS's I've ever used were Mac, Windows 7 & 10. I've heard a lot of great things about Linux and I want to move to that. The problem is I don't know anything about Linux. And good Linux OS's to start off with? I need one for a complete beginner like me.

For a Windows user go with Linux Mint, Kubuntu or Lubuntu, for a Mac user Ubuntu or ElementryOS they are on the Debian side and are user friendly, a few other good ones but not as easy are Arch and openSUSE.

Yep, @Ecks pretty much covered most of it. I would say that if you are absolutely new Ubuntu might be helpful, even opposed to Kubuntu/Mint/Lubuntu as even though there is a learning curve, it'll probably be better to start on vanilla Ubuntu.

From there I would recommend checking out Debian, (open)SUSE, or Arch, depending on that route of Linux base you want to take.

When you are well accustomed to Linux, customizing your own Arch distro, trying out CentOS and building a graphical system with that (good luck), or even trying out RHEL. I've found Red Hat to actually be the most user friendly, simplistic, and enjoyable. Perhaps its the fact that it is the distro I started with, but I think its also due to the classic format of the interface.

A good starter Linux is Manjaro. It has everything set up and isn't Ubuntu.

If you want to learn how to actually do stuff, I recommend Debian net-install. It gives you a text-based installer that isn't too hart to use, but the result lets you get comfortable with the command line.

If you don't want Manjaro bloat, but are scared of net-install, try Antergos. It has everything set up, but still gives you room to do what you want with it.

At first, they are easy and nice... Then you start running into problems... Then you try to fix them... Then you upgrade a version... Then you can't boot.

You never got that far, so you wouldn't know

Oh yeah...its been years since I've used Ubuntu but thats exactly the reason I stopped using it, and essentially stopped using Linux. Granted it is a good way to get into Linux, bad place to stay.

Oh yeah...its been years since I've used Ubuntu but thats exactly the reason I stopped using it, and essentially stopped using Linux. Granted it is a good way to get into Linux, bad place to stay.

The issue is that it could end up scaring potential users away.

Kinda true. I never really ran into issues with Mint, but whenever I had issues with Ubuntu I gave my laptop to someone to fix. Didn't really know much about this stuff at this stuff at the time
