If someone is interested in a subculture surely it is fair to assume they would have more knowledge of the things that pertain to that subculture than someone who is not.

Wow this was kind of interesting. When i was in Year 9(14 years old) our class decided to do an exploration day delving into a different culture, and japan was the one we did (we did origami, Japanese cuisine and anime etc) and the anime we watched was spirited away(well, a fair chunk of it) and it seemed like a cute and everyday kind of anime if you know what i mean. This theory kind of took me by surprise.

right!? Other than Grave of the Fireflies many of Miyazaki's films I'm thinking of seem exactly that -- cute and fun spirited kind of movie.

I guess some of Miyazaki's genius in the way he directs and creates his movies is making it seem fun at first, but with different layers/interpretations available once you swim through the shallow end and start flailing in the deep.

Tis why I will always love MIyazaki movies

WTF? Is this even true? Where'd you learn about it? Is it just a fan theory or something? Even if it is true, I was still young when I first saw it anyway, I just thought it was some weird anime.

Hidden Lesson: Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.
