How to use a clipping mask (Photoshop cs6)
Spoiler:
First find a decent background, and open it into photoshop. I chose a flower background.

Next, create a new layer and use the fill bucket tool to fill the new layer white, place it under the background.

Now, use the text tool to create your desired text.

Reorganise the layers like this:

(Move the text layer under the background, and the white layer under the text)
Next, right click the background layer, and select Create Clipping Mask.

After that, right click the text layer and select blending options.

Tick Drop Shadow, and use the following settings:

This should give the text a nice outline and make it look more professional.

You can now edit the background and text however you want.
