I am seeing an absolutely ridiculous amount of people quoting 2-4 thousand dollars just to exist. You guys should cut back on some stuff. I live on less than a thousand a month. Anything over 100k a year and I'm confused as to what the people giving it to me hope for me to accomplish.

It really depends on the country. If you earn as a freelancer online, it is better to leave in a cheap country and earn USD. I lived in Turkey for a while and the exchange rate of the Turkish lira fell several times, so it was enough to earn about 700$ per month there for a comfortable life. Compared to the US it's nothing. You can check the current TRY price on this [link redacted] btw.

Check the poverty line figure for your area, then assess your personal finances, when at least %33 of your income is disposable I'd choose that as my figure, so its dynamic. However the more the better.
