I don't think you quite understand what overclocking is if you think this is true.

There is an option for ram clocks on my motherboard. I noticed it setting my OC for my cpu. Haven't had any problems. I do have a saying, and that's "Because I can." No other reason needed.

64 GB RAM is just such overkill it's not funny.

To put that in perspective, Windows 8 requires 20 GB of hdd space + 2GB RAM. That means you could have 2 Windows 8 computers with 8GB of dedicated RAM running entirely off your RAM and still have extra space.

The bottleneck in a system with 64 GB RAM will ALWAYS be the CPU.

One of these can be found on a computer that only supports up to 32 GB RAM. That should tell you something.

That means nothing. There are different levels of systems. You could have the same cpu in a mobo that supports 64GB ram.

No, it won't. That was my polite way of saying that you could run 2 Windows computers without needing a HDD, just a CPU and the RAM.

Unless you're somehow running a server and a desktop on the same RAM, and happen to be editing HD video on both, and streaming music, and mining LTC, and Battlefield 4, you will never need 64 gb RAM. And it's very possible even that won't get you to 64gb RAM.

Technically, you can run windows on a machine without a hard drive. PXE can do this, provided you have a hard drive on another machine.

That's all fine and well, but using things, especially electronics, faster and with more power than intended will tend to make it break sooner. Don't trick yourself.

I'm well aware, but if HP doesn't think anyone should need more than 32 GB on that CPU, you probably don't need more. As I said, there are edge conditions where you could maybe use more.

More RAM will not always help with faster multitasking. The CPU can only do so many things in a second,

Example:
Say you have 3 50-operation programs you want to run.

Your CPU can only do 10 ops in a second, and it takes 2 seconds to transfer shit to RAM.

Anything more than 20B RAM is pointless.


EDIT: Just for the fun of it, GDDR5( GFX RAM, so your computer RAM probably gets nowhere near these speeds ) can transfer 4GB/s. Assuming a quad-core system @ 2.0 GHz( I'm lazy and want to keep math easy ), you get a sum of 8 GHz processor speed. That means that your processor needs only 8GB of accessible RAM to maintain perfect fluidity.

An example with more realistic numbers:

The best RAM available to consumers( Newegg's Extreme Gaming section ) gets ~20GB/s transfer speed
The best consumer CPU on NewEgg( for 1k ) is a 3.3GHz x 6 core processor, coming out to around 20GHz( rather convenient, really ).

This means that you, in theory, need only 20GB + 1B of RAM to maintain perfect speed.
