I would consider myself fluent at .net after about a year and a half.

I started off with Batch programming and that took me about three months to design my very first and very basic program. At three months I mixed Batch with Java and that made things a bit more difficult. But at that same time I had also dropped Batch and solely focused on Java programming. It took me a whole year to get Java down pat and completely understand it where to I could design any piece of software that a client of mine needed.
Programming takes some bit of time to learn if you're just starting out. There's a ton to learn and it's an endless process.
Be yourself. Don't listen to people that judge you. Lead as an example. Treat all with equality.
