I'm going off of a. the internet and b. assumption.

The sale of narcotics essentially runs down the line, much like a pyramid scheme, or a referral program. One drug manufacturer (legal or not) decides he wants to make some money. He starts selling to a friend, who does the same. Over time, more people like the idea of a lot of money quickly. The initial dealers sell some, leading people to buying who know them. They hang out with their friends and say some thing along the lines of "hey man I just got this new dank kush. You ready to smoke these blvnts?" To which the other friend gladly obliges. If they find it to be high quality, the friend tells them their dealer. Eventually consumer (and possible future dealer) pays dealer, who pays their dealer (even if online) up until the point they just end up buying from a bunch of drug vices. This my friend, is how laced stuff came to be, even if your dealer is a very good guy, if he doesn't check every batch (and batches get mixed making this somewhat pointless) then you could very well get some nasty stuff. It essentially works in the following order.

Manufacturer -> Hyperdealer (let's say 5 people) -> Superdealer (lets also say 5 people) -> Megadealer (let's go with 10 people) -> Average dealer (let's say 25 people) -> Consumer (let's say 10 people.) This means that from this one manufacturer, 62.5k get involved in it. Over time, this string gets higher, and dealers go up in the community, and the highest become manufacturers themselves. The consumers casually sell to their friends, until the financial gain gets to their head and they sell to more. A constant and vicious cycle.

As terrible of a cycle as it is, not everyone will sell, some people will forever remain consumers. I'm not big on narcotics (although weed is pretty cool as long as you don't give your life up to it) but imagine if nootropic and smart drug (not talking Adderall, and only Modafinil/Armodafinil to an extent) sales worked like this. Somehow we conquered it soon enough through online stores that we don't deal with this. Although I'm sure that some people sell their nootropics, but usually people end up reverting back to online stores.

I got really off topic there didn't I.

tl;dr : people like money, so people become drug dealers after sharing/selling to their friend once or twice because their friends come back, and they like money.

For pot, at least, there's dispensaries and growers all over the place (at least here) that you can order from in bulk and they'll ship it discreetly (I can vouch for that). Once it's arrived, the grower doesn't care what happens to it, so you could peddal it all if you wanted to, but that would be a waste

Do you buy from dealers, growers/dispensaries, or online. (Primarily or which specifically.) I am torn on whether to other online or just wait for a trip to a legal state (US.)

I'm not too keen on the idea of spending around $45 on a quarter ounce of mystery weed that might not even be the subspecies I'm after.

If you have the option, try poking around online for a California or Carolina grower that does domestic delivery, I've heard good things.

Depends on the drug. Certain drugs need to be smuggled and the dealers are decided before the drug even enters the country, but for something like weed usually it is going through a friends friend who buys from this guy who has a friend type of deal and then depending on how hard you get into the weed, you might either start growing if you have the location/setup for it or you might just get in close with a grower and buy from him and then start selling yourself. Then again, I don't deal drugs so I can't say for certain.

Trial and error. I got lucky and found a good place on my first go, but like any way of getting anything illicit, it could take a few tries.

Also, if you are buying your shit off of TOR ya need to make sure the onion website it's self has great customer satisfaction, and then find a dealer that has what you wnat for the pricee you want, the has a clear transaction history on the website.
