How to install Kali Linux

Links:

Step 1: Download and install Utorrent or any torrent program.

Step 2: Go to kali.org and click on downloads at the top of the page.
I recommend these settings but you can always grab what you like.
But note that direct download will take forever so i strongly recommend torrent!

Step 3: Go to the virtual box site and download it by clicking on downloads and choosing the best one for you!
Once you have these two programs installed and your image of Kali fully downloaded we can now start Biggrin

So the first thing we will want to do is open virtual box, then click on new to create a new virtual machine.

It will then prompt you to name your new machine, if you type kali it will pre-configure settings for you. like shown here:

It will then ask you how much RAM you would like to allocate to this machine, i recommend 2 gb but technically only need 512 mb to run.

The next option will ask you if you want to create a virtual hard drive click: create a virtual hard drive now. for the next option click VDI, then dynamically allocated.

It will then prompt you to assign the amount of hard disk space you would like to create, so work with what you have!

After accepting all the settings you are now done building your virtual machine so start it up!! here is where the Kali .iso comes into play.

After starting your machine it will ask you to select a virtual optical disk file, click on the folder to the bottom right and search for your Kali .iso as shown below:

Once you add the file it will take you to Kali's main menu, I recommend using graphical install! Image below:

It will then ask you a series of simple questions such as location and time zone, keyboard layout all that good stuff.
Congratulations you are now the proud owner of Kali linux! Biggrin

NOTE: If you are extremely annoyed and frustrated because you do not have full screen try downloading the virtual box guest additions.

This is what I have done so far, but I need to go now, so I will finish the rest later tonight.

You've recommended too much ram in my opinion, your OS may get slow (depends upon how much actual RAM you've got) VirutalBox by default recommends 256 MB but if you have 1 to 2 of RAM then go with 512 MB

Yeah this is true, its because I have 12Gb, but agree that for tutorial sake we could take it down a bit Wink
The only problem is metasploit takes fudging forever to load with 512mb, but all in all still functional so we could roll with that thanks @Ex094, feedback is appreciated!
