How Has Learning a Linux Distro Positively Impacted You? 12-18-2016, 02:10 AM

One thing that I always here from others is the importance of learning the unix operating system and being proficient with bash. I've always postponed my learning in this area, though.
Has anyone here been impacted professionally from understanding the operating system? Is there more value to it than simply server and network management?

I have learned the basics of linux and yeah sometimes it helped me out a lot. Especially for backend stuff as Roger said, but I do currently have 2 linux systems installed on my raspberry PI (which I recently acquired)

Some time ago(Like 2 years) I used to use Linux for hacking and I didn't know what I was doing...
I was just copying and pasting commands. It looked hard and I didn't bother learning anything.
9 months ago I was forced to learn Linux because I had bought a raspberry pi.
After administrating my pi for 9 months I learned a lot. The knowledge helped me understand what an operating system is and helped me with exploiting servers. I started hating windows for it's lack of commands, customization and shitty software installers.
I started using CygWin because I love it when everything is in one place and you don't have to search for alternative programs.

Linux is awesome. Basically you can install it on anything. It's not heavy, you have full control over it. It's not hard for administration. Fast, reliable, and once you get used to it, you'll feel the difference by yourself.
