Books Recommended: Hacking The Art of Exploitation 2nd Edition

I purchased this book, and have read through it. This book goes into great detail, you don't need to be very fluent in assembly or c code (however this will definitely help, and I recommend that you are fluent in both before purchasing) to follow along with this book. The book also came with a live cd that allows you to follow along. I must say my only complaint is that the live cd had issues with xserver. I could still do everything fine without the GUI though.

I have also read through this book, which is quite big actually, reaching 741 pages. This book goes into pretty good detail on a lot of different ways to map out networks, find vulnerabilities, and how to exploit those vulnerabilities. The book doesn't only stop there though, it goes into detail on how you as an administrator could prevent the type of exploits they discuss throughout the book, hence it's bulky length. For someone who does not know Networking, I highly recommend they read through this book, I enjoyed it very much.
