How to setup a Minecraft Bukkit server with pictures!
A guide by: Ninja.

- Port-Forwarding
- Configuration
[ I ] Introduction [ I ]
In this guide I will be teaching you how to setup a Minecraft Bukkit server. I will also provide an explanation on how to properly configure your server. If you take the time to read this guide, I would appreciate it if you left some feedback.
[ II ] Resources [ II ]
- NotePad++
You will not need NotePad++ for this guide, however I feel that I need to include it because it will benefit you in the future while you are configuring plugins.
- IP-Chicken
You will need IP-Chicken to check your IP address.
- CraftBukkit
It is recommended that you download the latest version of craftbukkit, to do so, click the link above.
[ III ] Port-Forwarding [ III ]
This is the hardest part of the process, where most people get stuck. If you follow these steps, you will be 99% of the way done.
Firstly, we need to open up our command prompt. To do so, click on your start menu, type in CMD, and press enter. Now that you have your command prompt open, type in the command IPCONFIG.
You now need to look for your "Default Gateway" and your "IPv4 Address." I have done this myself for this guide, I will post a screen shot below, in case you are confused.

Once you have located both of those numbers, save them in a notepad document.
You are now going to have to access your routers control panel. To do this, open up your web browser and type in your Default Gateway. Once you are logged into your routers control panel, you are going to need to locate an option normally called port-forwarding, in some cases port-triggering. I will post a picture below of where mine is located on my router.

Once you have located this, click on it. There should be an option to "add" click on that.

We need to create a custom application, call it whatever you please. I am going to call it "Minecraft".
Once you have chosen a name, you're going to see a few boxes that probably look like this:

In the boxes that are asking you for a port, type in "25565" there will also be a drop down box which you need to change to "TCP/UDP". If you are required to enter an IP address, which is the case on some routers then go to http://IPChicken.com/ copy and paste the number from there into the box, and save your changes.
Congratulations, you are now 99% of the way done.
[ IV ] Configuration [ IV ]
If you have made it this far, congratulations. This is the easy part.
First things first, create a new folder on your desktop and name it whatever you please. Take the crafbukkit file that you downloaded earlier and place it in the folder. If for some reason the file is not craftbukkit you need to rename it. You are now going to need to open up a new text document in notepad, and enter the following code.
Code:
java -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar -o true
PAUSEName the file whatever you please, however make sure that you make the file extension a ".bat" Place that file in the folder containing your craftbukkit file, and run it.
There is only one thing left that we need to do before you are officially done. You need to open up your server.properties file using NotePad++ if you haven't downloaded it, that's fine. Just right click on the file go down to properties, change the file to open with notepad.
Now you need to the line "serverip=" this is where you're going to need your IPv4 address you saved from earlier. Copy-paste that into the file where it says "serverip=" save you changes, and you are done. Congratulations.

This will conclude my guide on how to setup a Minecraft Bukkit server, if you made it this far I hope that this was easy to understand, and that it helped you. I would appreciate it if you left some feedback.
I will be updating this thread later with a more detailed explanation on what everything in your server.properties folder does. I'm sorry if this thread was somewhat sloppy I'm trying to get my sleeping schedule back on track. I have been up for a while and this is the only way I am passing time by writing guides. I have wrote a couple other guides as well.
