I've deleted grub patrition accidently and then my laptop hibernated so i cant access BIOS by pressing F2. When there comes to boot part i get message like "error: unknown filesystem and grub rescue command line...so i tried to google the solution and fix it but nothing good happend. After using ls command as output i get (hd0) (hd0,1) (hd0,1) (hd0,2) (hd0,5) and (hd0,6).
I tried to
Set root=(hd0,x)
Set prefix=(hd0,x)/root/grub
Insmod nornal

And i get output like

Error: unknown filesystem again..

( with hd0,x i mean i've tried all (1,2,5,6))

Im using fujitsu lifebook n series

Also i tried to press insert and space when fujitsu logo appears to reset hibernate memory but nothing happend..

Also i cant boot life cd or usb since BIOS got damaged

So i'm really fcked uo atm....

For this method you will need access to another pc and a blank dvd, go here and download and burn the iso.

Boot up your computer from this new dvd and select "try Ubuntu"

Run the boot repair application and carefully follow the instructions given

This should fix this for you

Thanks to @"Linuxephus™" who originally told me about this method when I had similar issues

@moroaddict How about plugging your HDD on another PC and running Boot Repair on it?

Oops my bad I saw this first thing this morning and missed the part about the bios.
You might be able to do using @"Ex094"'s method and once you have a bootable system again unlock the bios from sleep mode.

@chmod How come Bios gets damaged during Hibernation? I've not come across such problem as far as my knowledge. Can you enlighten us with some more info @moroaddict?

RE: Grub rescue> need HELP! #7
I'm not sure in all honesty I've not come across this before and will have to do some research on the subject. It could be a feature built into the bios of that particular laptop

EDIT:
@moroaddict have you tried a hard reset? most laptops this is achieved by removing the battery and power cord and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, and then putting it back and powering on.

Also have you tried to boot from a dvd? most modern computers prioritize booting from a cd/dvd so you might get lucky. This will skip the broken grub and boot into the live cd environment allowing you to repair that

RE: Grub rescue> need HELP! #8
Ok so i've fixed it now...i can make detailed tutorial abou this case...so if your laptop hibernates cuz of loss of batter, your BIOS gonna stuck in "hibernate mode" and try to get you system back asap when you charge AC...so if your grub or mbr are damaged there is no way to boot any bootable CD/DVD or USB....simply you cant do nothing....
If you're enough lucky to keep grub patrition and modules in grub rescue you can fix it very easy by typing
ls
ls (hdX,Y) - find where your ubuntu or backtrack is installed cuz there is always in /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc grub modules in case you gonna miss them
set root=(hdX,Y)
set prefix=(hdX,Y)/root/grub
insmod normal/linux/ntfs/fat/ntfscomp

so there you set the partition where your grub modules are atm,so basicaly with insmod you gonna run them(pick one of the normal/linux/ntfs/fat/ntfscomp....normal- normal boot linux-linux boot ntfs-partition format to perform scan fat-same like ntf etc...

usually this problem is caused by missing atleast one partition (deleted BT partition,win7 etc.)
if you remove grub partition you can simply boot live cd and fix it...
but if your system hibernates after removing partition of grub you're fucked up as hell...

so here is explanation why it happens:
hibernate state, S4, does not fully turn off power to the machine. Yes, the computer looks completely off, no lights or sounds, and even a firmware loading screen is presented on “power on”, but it is sucking tiny bit of energy (see ACPI spec v5 16.1.4). Somewhere, maybe in some modified ACPI tables but I’m not sure, windows hibernate tells the firmware to just boot directly to the device window hibernated to.

how to fix it...1Smile if you're happy enough to turn of your laptop and plug off AC adapter and battery, by pressing "power on" button all electric charge will be spent all the power
2.) you can disassemble your laptop and find CMOS battery (battery which saves the bios job,and state (the one you want to remove all electric charge under 1)))...so you have to remove it and w8 10 sec the put i back and everything gonna work just fine
3.) you can swap your hardrives to another PC and boot linux,or windows repair and bootrec.exe /fixmbr /fixroot for windows and sudo apt-get remove grub sudo apt-get install grub and update it....

i swaped HDD to my brothers laptop and fixed it....huh so im pretty lucky cuz i have another laptop to fix it,otherwise i would have to search CMOS batter for a life...

thanks for help guys

Glad to hear It's fixed, I recommend you make a separate thread for this and include your solution for the problem as @chmod said. Cheers Smile
