My one is Version 27.0.1438.7 and it seems to eat away almost 60% of my system memory if I am operating on multiple tabs :/ I was actually having a thought for last couple of days that if chrome keeps doing that I might have to switch to something else .

It did not save a cache of the websites. Just open them for a longer time.

It doesn't have the cache of the site.

I think you should give CCleaner a try. Let it clear cache cookies history everything and then remove chrome, Use CCleaner again to remove the registry values and then install chrome form a new and clean installation file.
