I played some of the early games. There was a really good game called Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War, which included many of the same designers.

Played it, love those games. I also use to play the old Warcraft games as a kid. Funny enough my dad played warcraft, and he's not a tech guy at all

I actually got the first three AOE games along with a huge stack of other CDs when I got my first PC from a friend of my fathers. It was a Windows 98 Packard Bell and it did not age well at all.
I loved the AOE series and its been a while since I've heard it mentioned. I might take a look at playing some of the older titles in my free time.

I have most certainly played it, however, I played more of Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Do not get me wrong, Age of Empires was amazing, but the latter having a better storyline and being more action oriented did it for me. I remember Command & Conquer: Red Alert had live action cut-scenes, which was awesome at the time.
