Well yeah that makes a hell of a lot of sense. Just try replacing the battery. As for the overheating problem, try opening the damn thing up from the back and look for the fans. If you can even find them. Just remember where everything goes because it'll be pain in the arse later on if you don't.

I've had 4 HP lappies die on me, hence as of many years ago, I'm done with HPs.

I'll try and simply this as best I can.
The primary function of the CMOS battery, Is to make sure the BIOS settings are Intact and to store the correct date and time, hence your above post of "dead RTC battery"- RTC being "Real Time Clock".

If the CMOS battery Is dead/dying, the BIOS will most likely not get the correct Information from the CMOS (thereby cannot Identify the date & time settings, hardware configurations etc), thus consistent with the unexpected shutdown you've described.

As mentioned, change the CMOS battery and reply with the result.

The only reason I would go against you saying that the battery being dead is causing the shutdowns is because my dads laptop didn't have a dead battery. I will have to try and replace the one in my lappy Monday since I forgot it at home, and I am leaving it at school.

You're not following.

I'm not Implying that each and every unexpected shutdown Is due to a CMOS Issue. It could be a corrupted registry entry, software compatibility Issue, PSU-related, overheating, malicious code, remote execution on your system- there's hundreds of causes. What I've said was the CMOS battery was "consistent" (not "conclusive") with the unexpected shutdown you've described.

Anyhow, once you've replaced It, please advise with the outcome.

Try replacing the CMOS battery, flashing your BIOS (might be updated, but I doubt it). Try booting from a Live CD like Ubuntu or Hiren's or something and perform some system checks. Hard drive still working, RAM still functioning properly? You can check all of these things with a live CD.

Heating problem is probably the thermal paste or the fans, you might want to screw it open.

UPDATE:
So, I took it halfway apart yesterday, and everything went pretty well. I had to leave it in class halfway taken apart xD when I got home last night after my dad went to bed, I took his all the way apart, you know how when you get a fan blade and you turn it just for fun, well when I did that, it was stuck in place, hence the reason it kept overheating. I then put it back together, and booted it up, and guess what I heard (the fan actually running Notamused ) So, just a few minutes ago, I popped back in the class to finish taking it apart, and my fan was lodged stuck with a clump of dust. I spun it all the way around, and the clump come out. So, I started to put it back together, but had to leave. I will finish in about an hour, and update you all! I really hope this fixes it. I also replaced the CMOS battery with my dads laptop one that was for sure working, and it still gave me that error screen, I didn't re-flash the BIOS or anything, I just booted past the screen, I will update all that once I turn it on. Also when I turned my dads on last night, and booted into Vista Confused it wasn't getting NEARLY as hot as it was before!

So if I've read your update correctly, you've fixed the overheating issue but not the CMOS error?

I think I fixed the overheating issue, although not 100% sure.
I didn't re-flash the BIOS when I replaced the CMOS battery, I didn't even go in and set the time, so I think that might be why I still got the error.

Yeah just try re-flashing it and see what turns up after. Make sure to give us an update when you have the time!

Yeah, I plan on doing that when I get in there in about 10-15 minutes.
