In short, it gets people access to hidden Instagram profiles.

How it does it, however, is far more interesting. From my understanding, a user pays the subscription fee for access and gives the app access to their on Instagram account data. By encouraging people to try legitimately following others’ hidden profiles, the images and videos of the accounts that accept the user’s follow request will now be accessible by a 3rd party that pays for access to the app, which has collected the data from both the original user’s account and the second user’s account that the first user had followed in order to view the second user’s “private life.” This effectively undoes the action of the second user, who has made their profile private in hopes of keeping random people from looking at their daily lives. In general, ghosty acts like a disease, spreading by the users’ actions and instead of killing victims affected, merely collects their data and shares it to people who also pay to use ghosty to view hidden profile data without actually following.

Keep in mind, I am not an instagram user and only have a very basic understanding of how it work. Please do not come after me with pitchforks and torches if you find something incorrect.
