Gail Halverson - The candy bomber dies yesterday #1
In 2019 I´ve met a old pilot in germany with the Bundesverdienstkreuz over his old overal. It was Gail, 99 years old and the Copilot from a C54. My ten year old sun and his friend listened attentiv to the stories from the old man. Old man? No, he was fresh, full of energy and wanted to give hope and love to the young generation.
We hat the luck to hold the contact to this interesting guy and when my sun had ab bad bicycle crash he recieves videomassages from his pilot. A man, you would not belive, that he was 101 years old at this time.
Today a friend of mine wrote me, that Gail died yesterday a 20:35. The world lost a good guy.

RIP. Not many WWII vets left alive. Very interesting, as he was known for dropping candy to the German children during the Berlin Airlift (Cold War).

About ~1.5% of the estimated 16 million that served. Most in their 90s.

The oldest WWII veteran died last month at the age of 112.

He was thought to be the oldest man In the US.
