I've been able to compromise the hosting accounts of SMF hosting forums. That's how exposed the privacy is.

IPB looks best, Xenforo for layout and VBulletin for plugins and modifications.
But my choice would be Mybb because it's easy to use and manage, is open source and can be easily modified to fit the webmaster's wants.

MyBB hands down, It has the biggest community right there to help you with anything you need Plus there are many plugins

Definitely MyBB, considering it's free and very customizable. If I had to pick a runner-up, I would select XenForo, as it's my favourite premium forum software.

Well I have pretty extensive experience in the following:
phpbb (2 and 3)
SMF (1.x series)
vBulletin (3.x series)
IPB (3.x series)
and my latest venture is MyBB.

I chose MyBB because I was using IPB and I got tired of the $25 renewal fee every few months, MyBB seemed like the logical choice because the MyBB software is very similar to IPB in a lot of aspects.

My favorite? I suppose whatever software I am on at the moment is my favorite, otherwise I wouldnt be using it right?
Like if you asked me a couple years ago I might of said phpbb or vBulletin but if you asked me today, I'd say MyBB

MyBB in case of free forums and IPB in case of Paid Forums. There are many other good forum softwares too but I believe these 2 are the best in their categories.
