I happen to like Linux, it gets out of my way; lets me work. I think every OS has it merits though.

For my use, I just like to stick with Windows.

One thing to keep in mind is that many poorer countries get our e-waste, which is often functional, older machines. These machines may not run newer software, or the people using them may not be able to afford newer software, or both.

i honestly prefer windows in general XP (not vista) and of course windows 7, not too keen on windows 8 though

I can tolerate Windows 7. Have you tried StartIsBack and other modifications for Win8.1 to look like Win7?
On-topic: For desktop, Linux Mint or Debian with KDE. For server, Debian or Ubuntu.
