Favorite Linux Distros? #1
Hey buds.

I was wondering what your favorite distros are, and if applicable, for what purposes?

This doesn't have to be solely for hacking, I mean in general.

I personally fiddled around a bit with Mint, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Kali, Backtrack, Debian, etc, and honestly still haven't decided on one to use lol.

Will be getting a shitty laptop soon and will try out one of the lighter ones, maybe Puppy Linux, 300MB wow.

Yeah, that's it.

Last I heard Linux got some sort of partnership with Amazon and now gather your data and etc so they can show you ads on the apps menu thing... so yeah I haven't used it since

I use Debian exclusively now. In the past I've also used CentOS and Arch.

Debian seems to come up a lot, including for old computers...

Maybe I will choose that for the laptop after all

I've used Ubuntu over the years, but It's not to my liking.

Has anyone experienced Ubuntu MATE?

Nah Mate.

But I do remember that a few years ago I decided to burn linux distros on CDs so I could try them out lmao.

And yes, I mean I burned one for linux Mint Xfce, one for MATE, one for Cinnamon, one for OpenSUSE, etc...

I just seriously hope that at the time I just used the live versions and not reinstall the OS every time lmao

I still do this with various OSes, for testing purposes on my VM.

If I don't like the OS, I simply discard the VHD.

The only Ubuntu I've enjoyed and found useful was Xubuntu. Runs a lightweight XFCE4 desktop and organizes newly installed packages in an almost-start-bar that is quite hella categorized. Its install is also just above 1GB and I can fit it on my smallest thumb drive.

I use Arch running a VM of any OS I'd like. Arch definitely does almost everything I need to do on any of my PC's though.
Black Arch is pointless and goes against the reason Arch exists.

This isn't so much a partnership with Linux itself but rather a partnership with specific distribution developers, namely Canonical (which manages Ubuntu.) With Linux being such an open and low level platform, it wouldn't be possible to do this as there isn't even an app menu at the linux level. I haven't used Ubuntu in ages, however as of late I have been using Xubuntu on older computers. For my home servers I've been using Debian and it runs nicely, no complaints.
