External HDD not working #1
I have a WD Scorpio Black 320GB ATA that was from my old laptop this hard drive was stamped from July 14 2009 so its not like its too damn old.

Anyways it seemed to format correctly and it seemed to accept/transfer files smoothly but no matter what I do my PS3 will not show it when plugged in with a USB adapter and I know the adapter is working fine.

It was originally formatted to NTFS which PS3's cannot read and I read that it can only accept FAT32. The format was successful so I am confused as fuck.

Is there a trick needed to get external hard drives to function on PS3? it won't even read on the xBox 360 in the living room but if I use the USB to it on my laptop bam it reads instantly.

PS3 320GB Slim

EDIT: Same issue with a spare Toshiba HDD2D62 120GB

You have to format your drive to FAT32 (which it looks like you did) the download this update onto the hdd itself. After that, you should be golden.

It was formatted to FAT32

Anyways I solved it I removed the partitions and completely wiped it again and then created a new partition called External formated to FAT32 and it picked up.

Now all I need is a external HDD case because I'm using a technician SATA adapter so its not pretty.

I honestly don't know why I don't use my PS3 space I just prefer to keep it clean but it has like 290GB free of 320GB.

Yeah it still had System Reserved and then the main partition which was empty it should of read that I am not sure why maybe it was because it had 2 partitions because of the reserved.

On the Windows platform, the System Reserved Partition Is automatically created when Installing Windows. Even If It's deleted, It will be recreated. It's a hidden partition (unless a driver letter Is assigned to It).

I agree, It should've recognized the main partition under the FAT32 file system. You've done the right thing by wiping all partitions and then format under FAT32.
