Mind explaining?. Just user confidence I guess?
Using SSL on sites that aren't "shops" is becoming common practice. It encrypts the data. Otherwise your browsing habits are all transmitted in plaintext and someone using a protocol analyzer could capture the packets and essentially see everything you're doing. It also helps to ensure the website is who it says it is when you have a 3rd party vetted SSL vs a self-signed cert. Self-signed certs offer the same encryption protection, but they have not been verified by a 3rd party. I use self-signed certs on some of my internal stuff because no point in paying for one that isn't enduser facing.
There's plugins that will force SSL https://www.eff.org/HTTPS-everywhere
Hope this helps

You might be better off using a payment gateway depending on how your site is setup. Otherwise you have to start worrying about PCI Compliance when you're accepting/storing/transmitting credit card data. there are different levels of SSL all with varying prices.

I generally wouldn't discuss this here because of how its off topic but I guess I've already started this.
PayPal, to allow me to use their embedded payment method means that my site has to have a SSL cert. that will not only provide an https but also have it green so people can checkout on my site. The other fact that I sell an unregulated drug means that paypal is really picky about who they allow to do this shit.

Cloudflare SSL certs would expire just like any other, would they not? Current cert is good until 10/1/2016.
