Dumb Terminal + Linux = Old school fun 11-02-2018, 02:51 AM

Ok, there no real practical reason for doing this, but that's never stopped me.
What you are seeing is a Wyse WY-55 Dumb terminal hooked up to a linux vm running debian, via RS-232 (Serial), USB to serial adapter, and a null modem cable. So far, anything that runs in the linux terminal will show on the dumb terminal.
For extra effect, I played some Synthwave while navigating SL on the terminal. I recommend this:

It's like if SL were a BBS for phreakers, right out of the 1980's!

Synthwave is nice, I was listening to it a lot 1-2 months ago. You should try to run some older OSs too

I thought about running Unix or something like TOPS, but they would lack drivers for my USB adapter.

Really? if that is the case, you are older than I would have guessed.

Obviously I will not disclose my age, but let's just say I was well and truly around during the later stage of the ARPANET.
I'm sure you have a ballpark figure.

I always thought you made it clear you were older on the forums. You've definitely got the skills to justify your age.

Thank you, and yes I have posted that I'm older than most members.

In my mind, RS-232 is still GOD. Its still widely used, and for good reason.

Oh yes, the good old serial port.
It's a shame It Is not shipped with the majority of laptops nowadays. I would've loved to have It on my Predators.
