Yeah. Marijuana isn't chemically addictive, like cigarettes. But, it can be habitually addictive, like alcohol, simply because users find its effects are desirable. So, if you have an addictive personality, you better not try it.

You can't become physically addicted to weed, but you can become mentally addicted. Unless you easily get addicted to things, you won't get addicted to weed. At the end of the day, it's only a plant. The whole "drug" concept surrounding cannabis leads people to believe it's as addictive as heroin.

I smoke cigarrettes, I'm addicted but soon will stop them. I don't smoke weed or drink alcohol or taking any other drug.

Quitting an addiction is a grand step forward. I wish you luck down that path.

I agree with what everyone else is saying 100% but here is my thoughts on it specifically.

1. The first time you try it usually you don't even feel anything because you don't know the feeling yet so more than likely you will need to do it several times to fully understand and know the "high feeling"

2. Weed is not addictive physically but it is very fun to do. It makes things more fun. Laughing = god tier.

2b. Make sure you are able to find things to do that are fun besides weed or you will want to smoke weed when you are bored which can be pricey depending on how easily bored you get.

I say go for it. Give it a shot. If you don't like it or decide its taking too much time out of your life, just pull back a little or take a break.

Never smoked.
Smoking is one of the things I hate the most (doesn't matter smoking what)
I probably couldn't date someone who smoked, and much less live with them.

I used to think I'd never kiss a person who was smoking. Turns out I ended up doing just that. I strongly dislike smoking. I think being around smokers at Uni helped me get used to it though.

Everything can be physically addicting, especially psychoactive drugs. By artificially increasing or decreasing the amount of a certain neurotransmitter, you encourage the brain to stop producing those chemicals naturally. If you stop use of any drug after a prolonged period of use, you will be deficient in the effected neurotransmitter for a period of time, and during that period you will crave the drug.

It is also worth noting that THC encourages much the same chemical release/re-uptake inhibition as muscle relaxants, which, similarly, are very easy to get psychologically addicted to, but difficult to get physically addicted to.

The brain doesn't produce tetrahydracannabinol (THC) for itself. It produces small amounts of DMT but that's a whole other topic I won't get into. THC affects the cannibinoid receptors in the brain, causing changes in appetite, taste, emotion (typically more often pain, sometimes fear, happiness, etc.) and mood. Cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid and the prime pain-killer in female marijuana plants itself is probably the most addictive psychologically but even in it's purest form, it is not physically addictive. The risk of physical addiction to THC is about as high as the risk of allergic reaction to the CBD even at 30%+ THC content.

Pic related, it's what I just smoked:
