I seriously, seriously don't understand what all of the NFT fuss is about. It's just another stupid idea to throw your money at. If you have that much money to blow on a PNG file that you don't even really own, why not just invest in cryptocurrency?

There's no guarantee they will, but it's always possible. Generally the highest bidder is either the richest or the dumbest, for a reason.
And they could be right seeing how quickly NFT's second hand market is growing :

Those objects/arts/softwares/etc are totally not tech-related, you don't actually own anything except a unique token, it's just a convention. Another stupid way for rich people to play with their money.
