Ban Telegram Links? #1
Right now we are considering banning Telegram links, from anyone that isn't sponsored/approved. This is to prevent advertising, as well as needless spam.

This is currently the case for Discord links, but I've decided to open this up for discussion. If you have any input, please post below.

I think download links from Telegram should definitely be banned (that's already pretty much the case apparently).
And about sharing a Telegram channel, if people are really interested in that maybe a sub category would be alright... But I don't find it very constructive, people can (and do) already advertise for their channel in the signature, so if they're useful to the community the community might have a look at their channel anyway!

It Is against our advertising policy to reference/link (communication) channels, and Telegram Is certainly part of that equation- both a channel and a means of communication.

My view Is pretty clear.

Yes they should be dealt with the same way a discord server is dealt with. Only authorized/upgraded members should be allowed to post the link. New users will come through here not aware of scammers and a server/channel is the best place for that shit. Best bet is to do an account by account evaluation for each one. Or we could have users authorize their discord/telegram via Sinister API.

I don't see much reason why "authorized/upgraded members should be allowed". As I was saying a Telegram channel in their signature is already very common, we don't need posts about it...
Although maybe they're thinking about forbid Telegram link in signatures also ?

Because a user who is allowed to post their invite link should be allowed to do so. The signature should not be the only allowed place for that.

Users are not allowed to share their discord, telegram shoudnt be any different. In any case it seems its been used to surreptitiously promote competitor forums as of late. Abuse it and loose it.

Telegram might as well be Discord. And Telegram is commonly used by scammers, so I would say a ban on it is justified.

There's a big difference if someone is sharing their Telegram for sales/support, versus trying to advertise another forum. One benefits the forum, the other is meant to detract.

I'm not against people that are upgraded or sponsors from having a Telegram for sales/support.
