This is very basic and there are far more detailed tutorials on here already. Using a dictionary attack against WPA is very hit and miss, the chances of actually getting the password are slim.

Especially with routers which comes with pre-configured randomised passwords.

Its good after you set your wireless card to monitor mode to do that :

> ifconfig wlan0 down
> macchanger -m 00:11:22:33:44:55 wlan0
> ifconfig wlan0 up

So you will not reveal your real mac-adress to the tagret's router.
And then you are ready to go.

Dictionary attacks are actually one of the fastest attacks you can perform, although not guaranteed to be a success it's a hell of a lot faster than a bruteforce attack which can be measured in lifetimes (of the universe).

I wouldn't call it useless as most people don't really understand the risks of having a weak password. There's also the combination attack which is based off a dictionary attack that can greatly increase your chances of recovering the password if you have a decent dictionary.

If you don't know enough about a subject to form a valid argument don't post.
