I tried code academy, but the problem is that each exercise you learn something new, so after a while you kind of get lost, and forget about things you learned earlier.

I love that site. I think the issue with forgetting what you've been taught is down to your willingness to learn. Normally when you're shown how to do things, you need to take it upon yourself to practice in your own time. Learning is best done through enhanced/applied repetition in my opinion. A tutorial is not there to do everything for you, it's there to tell you how. The site has been updated a couple times since I started using it; it's got a neat layout for the lessons, which helps me stay interested in what I'm doing since I can see the result of what I'm learning immediately.

Is this site free? or do you have to pay.
I don't see the vb.net option to learn that
