Circumcision #1
Should circumcision be illegal?

I believe circumcision is a disgusting practice with no medical merit. I think it's complete bullshit.

It's good to know that some of you actually think it benefits your child Stressed Don't choose your child's religion please, they'll become a robot like the rest of society.

I was not circumcised as a child and I can tell you that as an option it has it's merit because not long ago I had to undergo a procedure that a circumcision would have prevented and I jokingly walked around for a month calling myself Frankendick. So my opinion is that as long as no one is forcing a parent to choose then they have every right to decide for their child, I also believe this with gene manipulation or anything that can benefit a child later in life.

I wouldn't make it illegal, because as @Ecks said, it has its purposes. However, I don't think it should be the default think. Like hospitals should make it to where circumcision can be opted into as opposed to opted out of.

I'm pretty neutral on the matter. I don't like giving the government one extra thing to prohibit, though.

I couldn't agree more. However, I don't think you can just outlaw something like this; a lot of people are religious and wouldn't allow that.

I completely agree with your religion-based views on the topic. It might be a discussion for another thread, but I believe that parents should wait until their children are old enough to choose their own, if they do so at all.

While it's still being debated, there's evidence suggesting that circumcision has its medical benefits: decreased risk of UTIs and certain STDs to name a few (source). That said, I know people who've been circumcised purely for medical/preventative reasons, which I think is completely fine.

Exactly this.

I believe any child (when he/she reaches the age of reason), should have the liberty of choosing whether they wish to follow a given religion, and exactly what type.

My dad is Catholic, mom's a Southern Baptist, I was raised as a Catholic child and at the age of eight I realized that religion wasn't for me. Religion is based on faith and I have no faith in humanity as a whole, let alone some almighty creator. That being said my parents never pushed religion on me, the many brutal things I had suffered as a child, luckily did not contain this. But I grew up in the southern US, in the heart of the bible belt and went to many many various "churches" and was able to learn much about not only Christianity but several other religions (Buddhism and Asatru are my favorites). In the end religion doesn't make mindless robots, people who close themselves off from learning and growing as human beings do this to themselves, if not for Islam and the Ancient Greeks our math would be no where near what it is today and let us not forget Albert Einstein, he was a religious man and even today the Vatican is the largest scientific institution in the world.
