As some others have said, it's technically possible to infect a computer just like that. However, those are very complex attacks and it is highly unlikely your download was one of those. To avoid those kind of sketchy redirections and dowloads, try using a browser with good safety default settings with uBlock origin installed.

I got a virus just by visiting a website that had malvertising on it once. Was a legit site too which sucked.
