Hi @
mothered, thank you for summoning me. Im just about to start my coffee brewer, and yes, 'he' can be of help.
What is Black´buntu and who uses it?
- Blackbuntu is a derivant of Ubuntu. Most specifically, a linux distribution made for hacking.
What is it good for?
- Hacking, with a focus on penetration testing and offensive security. It was first made for research purposes in these fields. It comes with several pen testing apps like my personal favorites Metasploit and another exploitation tool called Empire. They are basically used to gain control of another person's computer. It also has other types of hacking tools like password sniffers and crackers, network mappers, forensics, SQL-injection apps and more. Just the typical hacking kit.
Does it have any downsides?
- Its not as advanced as maybe Kali linux, or as high tech as maybe Arch/Blackarch. Mostly since its based of ubuntu. But on the flip side, ubuntu makes things easier to use.
Why is it relatively unknown?
- My personal opinion is that many (or atleast some) distros that have become uknown have done so not because they lack potential, but because the big fish on the market ate all the food. Lots of people tend to just go for the more mainstream distros. And since Kali is so popular, for example, they get more popularity just from that, and may even grow disproportionately more than how good they really are in comparison to other distros. And similarly, the less popular distros may not be that much worse than the big ones, but it's just the 'big' distros that steal the spotlight from them. Ive tried several less known distros, and most of them are actually quite good.
