Looking forward to it. Why Mint?

I'm still kinda playing with what the distro will be. I am thinking Mint because:

1) It actually loaded in VirtualBox (I miss KVM)
2) I think I will be catering some of this to the linux virgin, so Mint is nice and pointy-clicky to get someone started coming over from a Windows world. My thought is to rapidly accustom a brand new user to Linux, then integrate some more advanced, real, sys-admining skills. I'd like the content to be useful enough that an individual could eventually land an entry level linux admin job.

Alllll that being said, I'm still not 100% sold on Mint just yet.

Can't decide whether Ubuntu or Mint is worse. Either way, I doubt it will have an effect on the quality of your series.

what about different linux versions. i am new to linux so i get confused when jumping from ubuntu to kali and vice versa.

Welcome to Sinisterly, it looks like this is your first post. I don't plan to do much with Kali in this series, as my intentions are to be a bit more general with Linux. Kali comes with a number of specialized tools. These tools could each warrant a complete guide in and of themselves. I want to take those are new to Linux (as you mentioned you were yourself) and teach the basic administrative skills needed. I may do more advanced material in a future guide.

If you're completely new to Linux, I encourage you to take a look at the guide linked in a previous post. That is a sampling of what I hope to do with this more comprehensive series.

Honestly, using Kali or similar shouldn't even be considered until you know how to use Linux itself.
If operating Linux is like riding a bike, operating a pentesting distro without knowing Linux is like driving a car while riding a bike, without knowing how to drive either.

It's true. You have a lot of people that don't have experience using Linux, and all of a sudden they want to use Kali. Since Kali is Linux, they don't have a clue what they are doing. I'd agree it's a good idea to gain experience with Linux before you use Kali. Sure, you can get away with going straight to Kali, but that doesn't make you intelligent, or teach you anything useful.
