Hi, I'm sorry for being such a noob, not being able to figure out i'm guessing such a simple task, I'm totally new to Linux, but I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and started it fresh, but I can't seem to figure out how to connect to wireless.

There will be an icon in the top right corner that looks like 2 computers if you click on that, it will show a list of available networks, if it does not first make sure that your wireless card is up
Code:
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

I don't see any icon that shows two computers on the top right, and when I typed the code in on terminal, it came up with: wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

RE: Beginners #66
in which case could you provide the result of
Code:
ip link show and lspci | grep -i network

This will list any network cards along with the name Linux has given it (it's possible to have a name other than wlan0) and will allow us to see if it has detected your device, which will be very unusual if it hasn't

Do you have access to a wired connection as there may be a need to download drivers

As for the icon not being visible have a look here for a few methods to fix this.

@chmod I've tried those codes but it just doesn't seem to show or do anything. It says Wired Connection on the Icon on the top right that looks like a fan ( is this the same as the icon that has two computers?) but it doesn't connect. I believe I may need to download some drivers but which one do I download and how do I install?

I'll assume that you have tried to turn on the wireless device using the physical switch/button as for which drivers you will need and how to install them it will depend on your card. Try searching Google for these and you should get the results fairly quickly. (You're using a mac so try searching <model> wireless drivers Ubuntu, where <model> is the mac you are using (for example macbook pro)
