Hosting is a double edged sword when you're starting out. To be successful you need to go all out and dedicate every asset to it. I much prefer making my money through programming. It is more steady, less surprises, and I don't have to deal with as many people.

I don't have the resources to staff a support team full time 24/7... so I have made the decision to still provide hosting, but not at public offer. I primarily host my web development clients, and a few friends/personal acquaintances.

I've moved through multiple providers as a reseller, and I've determined that their support is not sufficient enough for my needs... So, despite the fact that I took a step back from accepting clients, I made a large step forward by upgrading my resources of servers to rent a half rack in 4 separate datacenters. I now have 124 dedicated servers providing myself with high availability on demand cloud hosting. This gives me overall reliability for my needs in developing massively scalable web applications, as well as gives me a great structure to build on when it is time to move forward once again in the realm of hosting.
