So me and some of my friends are wanting to create a pokemon game that follows the real story line of the anime including changing the maps and such to fit the anime. Soo is there a way we could do this without getting into legal matters? We do not plan to make money from this either.

Rebrand it? Like not call it Pokemon? Change it just enough to not get sued is my suggestion... And if you're not monetizing from it I don't see a problem but yeah you might technically be taking people from their business (that would be their reason for lawsuit.)

yea, but the whole point is to recreate the first generation of pokemon to what it should have been.

Now here's the thing, you can change ash to ashe, change his hat to be blue.

Change the land scape just a bit, and so on and there's no copy right infrigment.

However if you plan on going the route of talking to the people at pokemon, then get the HUGEST presentation ready, get a demo made, make points of how much money it could make them and so on.
