I don't agree with this. The fact that on this site you have to EARN the right to be classed as Elite means that it requires dedication and therefore shows that those that have it are dedicated to the forum themselves. If you make it pay-to-gain then you'll get a load of rich-kid bitches saying they're better than everybody because they purchased their way into Elite.

That's my concern. A donator isn't necessarily Elite and they might not have necessarily contributed to the forum. While the money will be used to benefit the forum, that doesn't make them Elite.

Precisely. Plus, doesn't the word "elite" itself a synonym of "the best"? Surely to be one of the best, you have to prove it. One does not simple buy their way into the best, they should earn it.

I disagree with the idea of letting users purchase an upgrade. It's been done on so many forums and while it keeps them running from the donations the ranks become worthless. If there isn't a difficult hurdle to get from one rank to the next it defeats the entire purpose of a new rank.
