Ambition #1
It makes me sick to see some people float through life with no purpose, no direction, no dreams or aspirations. I'm 18 and my university tutor announced to us today that he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. I think he is about 28.

I remember in high school, people would constantly tell me they have no real goals or dreams or ambitions. The worst is when they don't have to tell you. You can just see through their actions, their 'hobbies', and their friends that they are going no where. What I've come to realise lately is that a lot of people want the 'typical life' (maybe because they defaulted to it). By this I mean, they want to meet someone, get married, have children, work a stable job, grow old, and die. Puke. I'm sorry, the thought of that just makes me sick.

Why would anyone choose to go down such a predetermined path in life? It seems so bland. It's like you're so scared to fail so you aim for the 'basic package'. Why does nobody dream anymore? When I die, I don't want to be remembered as a 'family guy' and a 'caring father and loving husband'. Puke. I'd rather get divorced and go live in the jungle when I turn 40.

Maybe people don't spend enough time thinking about what they really want in life. What do you want to be remembered for? What legacy do you want to leave? When you're dead, how do you want to have changed the world? If you're going to be on this earth, you have a responsibility to improve upon it IMO.

And some people will argue with me. "But I don't want to be famous or wealthy or do anything extraordinary with my life. I just want to be a good person etc" - Ew. That's just an excuse for being a drone.

Iv had no real goals in life, when I was in school I really wanted to be an archaeologist, but then when I finished school I went on doing 4 years in college, 1 in IT & 3 for mechanics, which I really didn't plan on doing, I finished school & planned on getting a job, when a mate of mine told me about 5 days before the IT course was started that there was a spare place, so I decided to do that instead, and as for the mechanics course, my dad kinda pushed me into that, said I need to do something more "manly" with my time and not mess about with computers.

Now, 13 years after leaving school ( damn, that makes me sound old o.0 ), I'm self employed & still living with my dad, ( and? he's be lost without me, unlike my sisters I'm not ready to abandon him ).

I didn't really ever want to be "rich", but now I'm pulling in quite a hansom wage with quite a few people working for me ( which I love, nothing better than being a boss ).

Anyway, went off topic a bit there, my point was, I had no dreams or ambitions growing up, I really was the type to just drift by unnoticed & I think I turned out ok.

On another note, I just wanted to point out that in school I failed almost every class, apart from history, was good at that for some reason, where as people who got all A's now work at like McDonald's & I turned out better than them, so I suppose on another note it's not always better to have hopes and dreams, but maybe winging it is sometimes better, worked for me.

It annoys me too when people don't aim high, and very little ambition. For the last few years, I've always had this dream of becoming a filmmaker, but I've only recently started working on it. Another things is that some people do have a lot of ambition, but aren't willing to do anything about it.

Most people can't follow their dreams within the constraints of reality. Of course, it depends entirely on what the individuals dream is. Someone's dream could be to sit at home and browse the internet all day. Not extraordinary in your eyes, but who they want to be. You can change the world in countless ways, and it doesn't always involve something huge and revolutionary. Extraordinary is completely subjective.

Personally I would like to be self-employed, a business owner of some sort, or an inventor of an innovative product. At the moment I'm still in college, but I have a long road ahead of me, and I want to make the most out of my life. I agree with you; there are way too many people who go through their entire life as a drone, working for somebody else for a minimum wage. Most people have dreams but never fulfill them.

It's mainly because of procrastination. It's a shame as some people just don't have the willpower of confidence to do what it takes. Therefore they live an average life and generally aren't as happy.

I actually want to be a Motocross racer, but when you don't have money to buy a good dirt bike and hook it up then its really hard. I mean I know how to ride, I think I am pretty good. I blow out my friends and everything even when they have the faster bike. Once I get a job and my licence I will be at the track everyday Smile
