I think this really depends on cost of living and tax. Going on a basis for the UK where I'm from, average monthly earnings before tax hover around the $2,000 mark (with current exchange rate). So $5K seems an enormous wage to me. $60k per year sounds more than comfortable to me. However, we have the NHS and aren't paying out of pocket for tuition at university (to some extent).

tl;dr - It really depends, but $5k seems significantly more than comfortable from my perspective.
