I personally love trains, while they seem to be slower than cars or flying in the US

If you like them and want to be faster than cars, come to Europe! They're not perfect, but most of the routes are really scenic here, and for now you still have the opportunity to open the window at 125mph to feel the breeze. They'll be taking the HSTs out over the next couple of years and refurbishing them to have plug doors that have fixed windows, so nows really your last chance to experience 1970s British Rail and the worlds fastest diesel engine. We had them screaming out of city till mid last year when they got replaced with a modern DMU.
