I'd back this, but I understand why they're capped at 255. It's a database architecture problem. The VARCHAR sql type hold strings from 0-255 characters, and the next step up is the TEXT type which holds up to 65,535. I'd be all for longer signatures, but that's a lot of unused space, and I don't want people writing a novel under their posts
