Looks very interesting, tag me if you post part 2 and 3. I wanted to create a home automation project as well. I wanted to create it with a raspberry pi though.
You know what would be nice as well? A NFC future, that could connect with your phone. I wouldn't use a lock that is connected to the device though. They have so called "smart locks" which are even easier to "pick", hack, than you can pick a normal physical lock.
